Dear Mr. Biswajit,

The maximum amount of interest that is allowed as Deduction on account of payment of interest on Home Loans is Rs. 2 lakhs. In addition, under Section 80EE an additional deduction of Rs. 50000/- is available to first time home buyers, provided the housing loan was sanctioned furing 1.4.2016 to 31.3.2017.

But you say that in your case, the total interest itself comes to only Rs. 97000/- in the financial year 2017-18.  Therefore, when you are not able to fully utilise the maximum amount of Rs. 2 lakhs as deduction towards interest on housing loan, why talk about the additional deduction of Rs. 50000/- under Sec. 88EE?
