Kingfisher compensates for loosing luggage

Kingfisher Airlines paid Rs 19,000 as compensation to a complainant for misplacing her luggage, as directed by the Aizawl District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum.

The airline had lost the luggage of Ms Saroj Dhawan, a resident of Aizawl, in transit from Aizawl to Hyderabad on December 19, 2008.

According to the complaint submitted to the consumer forum, the complainant boarded Kingfisher flight from Aizawl to Hyderabad on that day.

On her arrival in Hyderabad, she found that one of her luggage, a VIP suitcase, was missing.

She brought the matter to the Kingfisher ground staff at the airport who immediately issued her a missing goods certificate.

However, neither was her missing luggage recovered nor compensation given to her even after one year, which left her no alternative than approaching the consumer’s court.

‘Despite at least seven summons to Kingfisher headquarters in Mumbai and Bangalore, besides the airport manager of Kingfisher Airlines at Lengpui Airport, they failed to appear before the forum.

Therefore, on August 18, the forum decided the case ex parte,’ a source from the forum told UNI.

Kingfisher Airlines was directed to pay the complainant Rs 14,000 for losing her luggage and Rs 5,000 as damages for the hardships and mental agony she had gone through
