Supreme Court Commutes Death Sentence to Life Term for the rape and murder of Priyadarshini Matoo 15 years ago saying the case did not fall in the rarest of rare category.  The accused belong to an influential community

It is pathetic to find that after reversing the trial court’s acquittal on the basis of circumstantial evidence by the Delhi High Court during the year 2006, Supreme Court could not find evidence and witness documents running to more than 1000 pages.  If the elite and influential could get away from the noose after committing horrendous crimes, SC has sent a wrong signal to the common man by setting a bad judicial precedent. Law Reforms and amendments to Indian Penal Code and Indian Evidence Act doing away age-old British procedures is the need of the hour.  We have to still believe our Union Law Minister Mr. Veerappa Moily  to initiate steps in this direction.  At least all these Judges must have daughters to suffer such fates to realize the mental agony of the affected parents.
