Lawrence Bishnoi’s Petition

  • The appeal claimed that there was a substantial threat to Bishnoi's life and that he could be "put to hurt or liquidated by extrajudicial means" if he was produced or released from detention in connection with the FIR filed by the Mansa police.
  • The application requested that the Tihar jail authorities notify the court in advance of any production warrant issued by the Punjab or any other state police against Bishnoi, and not to hand him over to any other state police.

  • The plea further requested that suitable directives be issued for questioning him via online/video conference or within the confines of Tihar Jail in New Delhi.
  • Bishnoi had previously filed a case in the Delhi High Court seeking protection against a "false encounter" by the Punjab Police, but has since withdrawn the application.
  • On Thursday, Advocate General of Punjab, Anmol Rattan Sidhu informed a bench of Justice Sureshwar Thakur that Bishnoi had not been named in the FIR registered in Mansa in the Moose Wala murder case, and so the petition was premature and non-maintainable.
