There is no specific provision in the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (CrPC) that requires the police to keep records or documents of who a car is handed over to after an RTO inspection in a 304A CrPC case. However, it is generally considered to be good practice for the police to do so. This is because the car owner may need to be contacted later on in the investigation, or may need to provide evidence in court.
