Deceased father's transfer to his daughter

My father signed a few blank cheques for me during his last days when he was going through his Cancer treatment. He signed it in advance so that if anything happens to him, atleast his only young daughter (me) has some security amount..His chemo went on for a few months & we all forgot about applying cheque in the bank..Since he'd mentioned date in cheques too & it's been months & months to that..How can I redeem that amount now?

If the bank is authoritatively informed of the death of an account holder, they will freeze his accounts immediately and the cheques issued by him would become invalid. If he had made any nominations, the nominees can claim the amounts. The legal heirs of the deceased person can claim the amount following appropriate procedure. Holders of cheques issued by the deceased person will have to claim from the legal heirs. It appears that in your case the cheques were not issued for any consideration nor in discharge of any liability. It will depend on the sweet will of the legal heirs to entertain your claim. If you are a legal heir yourself you can claim your share from the bank or from the nominee, if a person other than you had been nominated.
