Documents and process of bis registration in india

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Registration ensures the safety, reliability, and quality of products in India. It is mandatory for certain products under different schemes like ISI Mark, CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme), and FMCS (Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme).

Types of BIS Registration Schemes

ISI Mark Certification – Mandatory for products like cement, electrical appliances, and packaged drinking water.

Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) – Required for electronic goods like LED lights, mobile phones, and batteries.

Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS) – BIS certification for foreign manufacturers selling in India.

ECO Mark Scheme – For environment-friendly products.

Documents Required for BIS Registration

For Domestic Manufacturers:

  • Business registration certificate (Company Registration, MSME, etc.)

  • Factory license and pollution control certificate

  • Details of manufacturing process

  • Test reports from a BIS-recognized laboratory

  • Product specifications and quality control documents

  • Trademark certificate (if applicable)

  • Authorization letter and undertaking from the manufacturer

  • BIS application form with fees payment proof

For Foreign Manufacturers (FMCS Scheme):

  • Business license and manufacturing setup proof

  • Authorized Indian Representative (AIR) details

  • ISO certification (if available)

  • Product test reports from BIS-accredited labs

  • Trademark registration certificate

  • Factory audit details and quality control documents

Step-by-Step BIS Registration Process

1. Identify Applicable BIS Scheme

  • Check whether your product falls under ISI Mark, CRS, or FMCS.

  • Refer to the latest BIS product list to determine the category.

2. Product Testing in BIS-Approved Lab

  • The product must be tested in a BIS-recognized laboratory.

  • Obtain a test report confirming compliance with Indian standards.

3. Submit Application and Documents

  • Fill out the BIS registration form online via the Manak Online Portal.

  • Upload all required documents, including test reports and business details.

4. Inspection and Audit (For ISI & FMCS Schemes)

  • BIS officials may conduct a factory inspection to verify compliance.

  • Foreign manufacturers under FMCS need a separate factory audit.

5. Grant of BIS Certification

  • After successful document verification and product testing, BIS grants the certificate.

  • A unique BIS License Number or CRS Number is issued.

6. Renewal and Compliance

  • BIS certification is valid for 1 to 2 years (depending on the scheme).

  • Regular product testing and compliance updates are required for renewal.

Why is BIS Registration Important?

✔ Ensures product safety and quality.
✔ Mandatory for selling certain products in India.
✔ Helps businesses gain consumer trust and brand credibility.
✔ Avoids penalties and legal issues related to non-compliance.

For hassle-free BIS registration, consult a legal expert to ensure smooth documentation and approval.
