lWhat should a tenant do?

Hi,
I have been living in a rented flat for a few months and I have been facing problems with the flat and the landlord. The ceiling is falling off, the water had free flowing current and we were not informed about the water situation beforehand. And we suspect that they charge for their electricity from us, as well. Can we file a RTI to seek what the electricity meter is charging is only from our household and not from our landlord's downstairs?

RTI is applicable to Public Authorities only and not to individual in your case.

1.If you are a consumer, you have every right to seek such information from Electircity dept and ask them to ensure correct running of the meter.   No RTI is needed for that.

2.You can ask any local electrician to check this .  The process is simple.  Switch off all your appliances and  check whether your digital meter is running during that time..  You can use 100 watts bulb for prescribed time of half an hour and switch of all applicances and note down before switching to bulb and after switching off and arriving as to whether there is misuse of electricity through some other connections. You can do it without the information to land lord/other tenant.  Once this is established, you can engage an electrician to check the illegal connections, equipped with facts.

Yes you can , seek RTI from the concerned electricity board by sending copy if electricity bill along with rti application
