Pankaj's father Premchand Sancheti, a resident of Prasanna Vihar, Chinchwad, in the police complaint has alleged that his son committed suicide due to harrassment by his wife and her father. Pankaj's wife Poonam (22) and her father Premachand Nahar, a resident of Beed, have been booked under section 306 (abetment of suicide) and 507 (Criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of Indian Penal Code. According to the police, Pankaj hanged himself from the ceiling fan at his Thergaon residence. The police said that Poonam and her father allegedly made several phone calls to Pankaj's parents demanding money and the apartment.
