Are you serious by what you mean in your question? Do the laws really "prevent" crime or come into action after the fact of crime is done? There are so many sections of IPC but I am yet to come across a case were someone who had decided on commiting crime but the victim was saved by IPC as IPC came in front of criminal and prevented the fact of crime from occuring. Liberty guaranteed under Article 21 of  Constitution demands that laws should be mainly malum in se and not malum prohibitum.

There are several sections in Cr. PC which come in operation to prevent crime in chapter VIII, IX. X, XI  and XII
