Ancestral Property is one which comes down upto four generation without any partition and is inherited on the basis of survivorship. The property acquired after partition is a self-acquired property and it looses the characteristics of joint property and the ancestral property. In other words a property obtained by partition is due to a settlement or a court case and thus it no longer remains a property which has been passed on to generations.
