Except in the following cases, a) Matrimonial disputes/ family disputes,b) Commercial offences,c) Medical negligence cases,d) Corruption cases, registration of Zero FIR is mandatory for the police in cognizable offence. In a recent landmark judgments of Supreme Court of 5 Judges bench, the Judges have clearly enunciated the concept of zero FIR, including General Diary/Station Diary/Daily Diary and role of police and magistrates. If the police officer is not registering the cognizable case of zero FIR you may report to Superintendent of Police or you may complaint by online as there is no difference between telephone and online.
