What Is The Case

● In connection with the oxygen concentrator hoarding case in which Navneet Kalra has been accused, a Delhi court today remanded the businessman in police custody for three days.

● After Delhi Police requested five days' custody of Kalra, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Archana Beniwal of the Saket District Court issued an order to that effect.

Details

● Advocate Vineet Malhotra, who represented Kalra today, argued that custody of his client was unnecessary because the police already had his phone and the oxygen concentrator bills of sale.

● The Additional Sessions Judge in Saket Court had previously ordered Kalra's detention and the Delhi High Court had previously refused him anticipatory bail, according to Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Shrivastava.

● Inspector Gurmeet Singh told the court during the hearing that the Delhi Police has details on 524 of the 748 concentrators purchased by Kalra. He stated that information about the method for procuring oxygen concentrators had yet to be discovered and that Kalra's custody was needed for this reason.

Court’s Order

● On the evening of May 16, Kalra was apprehended by police at his brother-in-farmhouse laws in Gurugram.

● Last week, the Delhi High Court refused to give Kalra any temporary relief in the case of oxygen concentrator black marketing.

● After the Delhi Police seized oxygen concentrators from "Khan Chacha" and other restaurants owned by Kalra, a case was filed against him under Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, among other provisions of law.

● During the COVID-19 crisis, the police reported that the imported concentrators were being sold on the black market.
