Benches of Supreme Court

The Government has said that so far no circuit bench of the Supreme Court has been established. Giving this information in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Shri Salman Khurshid, Minister of Law & Justice, said that there is no such proposal before the Government. He informed the House that Article 130 of the Constitution of India stipulates that the Supreme Court shall sit in Delhi or in such other place or places, as the Chief Justice of India may, with the approval of the President, from time to time, appoint. The Minister also said that there is no proposal before the Government for establishing circuit bench of the Supreme Court at Gandhinagar and Kolkata.
