High Court blast not aimed at causing fatality: Police chief

The Delhi Police has said the explosion outside the Delhi High Court was not aimed at creating any major damage and the motive behind the incident was being probed.

Delhi Police Commissioner B K Gupta, who handed over a report of preliminary investigation to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday’s explosion, said as per the initial reports, the bomb was not aimed at causing major damage.

While awaiting for the CFSL report, the police chief said that "it was a low intensity and mild blast" and "that's why even the car under which it was placed, was not damaged much".

"Our best investigators -- our special branch and crime branch -- are conducting the inquiry," he said on Thursday.

Gupta said it was too early to say anything about the motive of planting the bomb as there was no possibility of it having caused any fatality or major damage, as per the preliminary probe.

"We will come to know about the explosive in a day or two. Definitely it was a low intensity, less quantity explosive, otherwise it would have caused major damage. It was not a powerful device," he said.

A crude bomb on Wednesday triggered a low intensity explosion outside the Delhi High Court in the heart of the capital, creating a security scare.

There was no damage to any property or injury to anyone in the blast that took place near a car in a service lane near the court premises.
