The Tribunal has confirmed MHA declaration of SIMI as an unlawful association. The Tribunal pronounced its order on August 1, 2012. SIMI was for the first time declared an unlawful association on 27th September, 2001.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) vide Notification dated 3rd February, 2012 had declared SIMI an unlawful association with immediate effect for two years, under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. As per provision of the said Act, a tribunal consisting of Shri Justice V.K.Shali, a sitting Judge of Delhi High Court was constituted to adjudicate whether there is sufficient cause for declaring the association unlawful.

MHA has been giving many inputs to Government of India but Govt and Ministers have always discarded those. Why should there be a tribunal to confirm or otherwise when MHA has already made a declaration based on intense and extensive investigation?
