• The BCI has issued a notification dated 02/01/2021, conveying its preference to have judicial services aspirants to practice at bar for 3 years.

• As per the notification, the Judicial Officers who appointed without prior experience at bar are incapable of handling matters and dealing with members of Bar & litigants.

•  It suggests that requiring a minimum of 3 year’s experience at Bar would increase their efficiency and lead to faster disposing of cases.

•  The BCI condemned the 2002 All India Judges Asso. V. UOI wherein the Supreme Court had done away with the requirement of 3 year’s practice.

• The BCI has moved an application to be impleaded as a party in the writ petition filed against Andhra Pradesh Judicial Services.

• The Andhra Pradesh Judicial Services had recently invited applications for Judiciary exam but mandated a prior experience of 3 year’s at the Bar.
