The vaccine must be procured from outside India rather than asking States to do so

The Madhya Pradesh High Court asked the Central Government to "take upon itself the responsibility of providing the required number of vaccination doses to the State by setting up more and more units in all the States with a required licence from the local manufacturers, to ensure that Madhya Pradesh receives even half of the promised quantity of vaccination doses for the month of May 2021."

The SC upheld the order of the Rajasthan High Court prohibiting police from arresting suspects in cases where the maximum sentence is up to three years

The Rajasthan High Court's order prohibiting the police from arresting the accused persons charged with a crime carrying a maximum term of three years was stayed by the Supreme Court on Tuesday until July 17, 2021. 

The Supreme Court has also stayed a High Court Single Bench order that the Registrar (Judicial), Jaipur Bench, Jaipur, and the Registrar (Judicial), Principal Seat, Jodhpur, not to list bail applications under Section 438 Cr. P.C in offences where the maximum sentence is three years and the offence is triable by a First Class Magistrate until the courts reopen after the summer vacation.

Tarun Tejpal’s rape case acquittal has been moved to Bombay High Court

The Goa government on Tuesday filed an appeal in the Bombay High Court against Tehelka magazine founder editor Tarun Tejpal's acquittal by a sessions court. Tejpal was convicted of sexually assaulting a former female colleague inside the elevator of a luxury hotel in Goa in 2013 by a Goa sessions court on May 21. The state government has challenged the order in the Bombay High Court's Goa bench, according to Goa Advocate General Devidas Pangam.

Special bench assigned to takeaway liberty: Narada scam case 

The Supreme Court on Tuesday observed, in response to the Calcutta High Court's order to stay the bail given to four Trinamool leaders in the Narada scam case, "We've seen separate benches set up to deal with issues of liberty. But this is the first time a separate bench has been tasked with robbing people of their liberty."

After an extraordinary session, Justice BR Gavai and Justice Vineet Saran made a comment in reference to the Calcutta High Court's May 17 order, which stayed the bail granted to four Trinamool Congress leaders in the Narada case.

Apprehension of death on the ground of COVID pandemic is valid to grant Anticipatory Bail: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed an Allahabad High Court decision that stated that fear of death due to reasons such as the COVID pandemic is a legitimate reason for anticipatory bail. The Court stated that the Allahabad High Court decision should not be used as a precedent for anticipatory bail and that courts should not depend on the High Court's observations when considering pre-arrest bail applications. 

Senior Advocate V Giri was also named as an amicus curiae to support the Court on the broader question of whether COVID can be used as a basis for granting anticipatory bail.

Violation of black chain orders by E- chain companies 

The Court was hearing a petition filed by the Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association, which sought to take action against the e-commerce industry for violating the Break the Chain order's guidelines.

During the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bombay High Court on Tuesday called for appropriate action against e-commerce retailers found to be violating the Maharashtra government's 'Break the Chain' order.

The court issued the order while hearing a petition requesting a waiver of property tax, renewal fees, and licence fees owed by retailers in Maharashtra for the duration of the lockdown, which begins in March 2020.
