INTERPOL CHIEF IN INDIA FOR ASSISTANCE IN MUMBAI PROBE: New Delhi (IANS): Interpol chief Ronald K. Noble visited the headquarters of India's premier crime detection agency Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here on Friday against the backdrop of the 26/11 Mumbai terror strikes. Highly placed sources in the investigating agency said that Noble visited Interpol's National Central Bureau located in the CBI headquarters in the morning. Later, the Interpol secretary general and another official met CBI Director Ashwani Kumar. In India, the CBI is the nodal agency for Interpol coordination. “They are in India for possible international assistance with regard to the Mumbai terror attacks,” said a senior official, on condition of strict anynomity. Interpol is the world's largest international police organisation, with 187 member countries. Created in 1923, it facilitates cross-border police co-operation, and supports and assists all organisations, authorities and services whose mission is to prevent or combat international crime. Earlier, officials of the US' Federal Bureau of Investigation and Britain's Scotland Yard visited Mumbai in the aftermath of the 26/11 attacks and offered their assistance in the investigations. A total of 164 people, including 26 foreign nationals, were killed in the attack.
