Non-Bailable Warrant Aagainst Bata GM 17 Jan 2009, 0313 hrs IST, TNN PATNA: In an important development, a CJM court on Friday ordered issuance of a non-bailable warrant of arrest against Bata India (Digha unit) general manager R J Prakash alias JP in connection with the case related to the killing of manager Pranav Kumar. Pranav had been shot dead near Polytechnic Mor under Pataliputra police station while he was returning to his Kankerbagh residence in the city from the Digha office in his Maruti car on November 17, 2008. The order came as a major setback to the Digha police, which investigated the case and submitted the final report in the court giving a clean chit to Prakash. Surprisingly, the police, in their report, presented Prakash as a witness rather than a named accused. Taking into account the evidence against the Bata GM in the case diary, the court rejected the police report. The same court also rejected the provisional bail of another key accused in the case, Ranjit Rai. Rai, who was present in the court room, was remanded to judicial custody till January 22.
