SC JUDGES TO MAKE THEIR ASSESTS PUBLIC 1/23/2009 Rattled by the increasing demand to make their assets public, the Supreme Court judges have reportedly decided to put the details of their assets on the website or may request the Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan to do so as he already has the same with him. Refusal of eminent senior lawyer F S Nariman to assist Delhi High Court as amicus curie (friend of the court) in an appeal filed by the Supreme Court General Secretary V K Jain against the order of Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) holding that the Supreme Court judges are covered under the RTI Act, seems to have proved last straw on camels back. The CJI has been resisting the pressure that the Supreme Court judges should make their assets public like any other public servant. The judges are likely to disclose their assets before the next date of hearing in the Delhi High Court which is February 11. The Delhi High Court has already stayed the order of the CIC. There has been increasing demand both from public, eminent jurist and parliamentarians for making the judges of the highest court of the land accountable to public like any other public authority or servant.
