The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has granted Maharashtra police time till June 2 to file its reply in connection with a petition seeking a probe by the CBI into the death of a seven-year-old girl, whose body was found in a car parked in the residence of BJP state unit chief Nitin Gadkari.
In his order, vacation Judge Justice S R Dongaonkar said the CBI may file its reply in this regard. The petitioners, the girl’s parents, have provided a copy of the petition to the CBI.
The court had earlier asked the state to file its reply by today.
Earlier, Assistant Government Pleader (AGP) Sanjay Doifode told the court that the report of the chemical analysis (CA) in the case was awaited. The state would be able to file its reply only after receiving the report, he said. Government Pleader (GP) Nitin Sambre was out of station at present, he said.
The girl, Yogita Thakre, was found dead in Mr Gadkari’s car at his residence in Mahal area of the city on May 19.
Her parents Vimal and Ashok Thakre, in their petition, claimed that the post-mortem report had confirmed the cause of the death to be smothering and have demanded a CBI probe into the case.
