Violation of Rape case ethics

Three channels under fire for violating rape cases’ ethics 5/24/2008 A city court ordered police to register an FIR against three TV channels for violating the code of ethics in dealing rape cases. On May 9, when a rape victim along with her parents was waiting in the poilce station, some mediapersons from three satellite channels entered the station and took the statements of the victim and her parents. The channels, later, telecast statements of the victim and her parents in which face of the victim was pixelled but the identities of her parents were revealed. Metropolitan Magistrate Davinder Kumar Jangala yesterday directed the Swaroop Nagar police station SHO to register an FIR under Section 228(A) of the IPC against the channels and investigate the matter as per the law. While the accused was produced in the court, the court directed mediapersons not to disclose the identity of the victim. The court said in the present case the interview of the victim was telecast with a blurred face but the interview of the parents of the victim was directly telecast by the news channels . By this they had made known the identity of the victim to all the persons who know her parents. The court said it had become a new practice among news channel these days to make news sensational for enhancing their viewership and they were going to any extent, even to violate the law of the land unfettered by any ethics and their duty towards society at large. The court directed the DCP, outer Delhi, to get the matter investigated by an officer not below the rank of ACP and submit the report to it on May 26. UNI
