The state government on Tuesday evening ordered arrest of circle officer (CO), Sadar, Pratapgarh, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Shivbaran Singh on charges of rape. The incident reportedly took place on June 6. Director-general of police (DGP) Vikram Singh, on the basis of a report from the Pratagharh police, forwarded his recommendation to the state government seeking suspension of the officer. The DSP's arrest came in connection with a written complaint lodged with the Pratapgarh police by wife of a police constable currently posted at Government Railway Police (GRP), Allahabad. Shivbaran Singh has been arrested. The CO has been put under suspension. The alleged victim had submitted a written complaint to the IG, Allahabad zone on Monday. In her complaint, she stated that Singh had asked her to come at his residence on June 6 on the pretext of disposing off a complaint case against her. After she reached the CO's house, she was allegedly raped by him. SP, Pratapgarh was asked to probe the allegations against the CO. "Prima facie suggests that charges against Singh were found to be true," a source said. A case has been lodged against Singh under section 376 of the IPC.
