In a major relief to the DDA , the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police has given a clean chit to the housing agency in the multi-million housing scam that came to the fore last year, highly placed sources said today.

The revelation was made during the DDA’s board meeting today, which also approved a budget of Rs 20,000 crore for the current financial year.

It was also decided during the meeting that the housing agency would make 10,000 flats every year in the national capital. No construction work would take place on the Yamuna river bed, the meeting decided.

Over 500,000 people applied for 5,238 flats under the DDA’s housing scheme last year. But the housing scheme got mired in controversies amid allegations of fake applications. The scam came to light earlier this year and the EOW started investigations after a man who was allotted a flat in the draw of lots told the police that he had not even applied for it.

Three chargesheets have been filed in the case and nine people, including some real estate agents, have been arrested till now.

Investigators of the Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch are awaiting expert opinion on some of the exhibits like hardware used for the draw of lots for allotment and then only the final report of the probe would be made public.
