Srinagar, Jun 22 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the authorities to take action against state police officials for the custodial killing of a youth. The SHRC also directed the authorities to pay Rs one lakh compensation and employment to one member of the family of the deceased youth. The commission gave the order on a petition filed by widow of a youth Qazi Mohammad Afzal alleging that her husband was arrested by police on October 29, 2005 during a raid at 1745 hrs. She alleged that he was later killed at Chaterhama in a fake encounter the same night. The commission, after hearing the case and going through the evidence, said the youth was arrested and later killed in a fake encounter. It rejected the police allegations against the youth that he was working with Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) as another report described him as informer who was killed by unknown gunmen. The commission said as per the records, the youth was arrested by then Superintendent of Police (SP) East several times but was never presented before a court of law.
