A lawyer and his cousin were seriously injured on Monday evening when four men entered the lawyer's office northeast Delhi and fired several rounds at them, in an apparent act of revenge, police said. The lawyer, Hashim, received five bullets and Intezar Ali was shot twice. A third man sitting with them was unhurt, said an officer. The police said the attackers, who came on motorcycles, fled after the indiscriminate firing. The attack, said an officer, appeared to be case of revenge attack. “Hashim's brother IR Khan was arrested sometime back for murdering Salim Pehlwan, a local don. It seems he was attacked to avenge Salim's murder,” said an officer. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajiv Ranjan said they were probing on these lines and verifying the statements of the victims. “No one has been arrested,” he said. Salim's gang is at loggerheads with the outfit of Anwar Thakur, who orchestrated Salim's murder earlier this year along with Hashim's brother Khan, police said. Late Monday evening, Hashim was chatting with Ali and another person at his office near his Kardampuri home near Shahdara. Two motorcycles came to a halt outside the office and four men casually walked in, said an officer. “They pulled out guns and started firing at them. All the neighbours locked themselves up in their homes on hearing the firing,” said an officer. Eight bullets hit the two victims. Another person sitting in the office somehow managed to escape, the police said. The attackers left the place immediately and the neighbours soon came to check the victims. They were taken to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where both of them were out of danger, said an officer.
