Delhi HC says cannot interfere in DUSU polls

Delhi High Court dismissed the petition of five Delhi University candidates who challenged the University’s decision to disqualify them in the students union election.

Three ABVP and two NSUI candidates had approached the Delhi High Court against Delhi University’s decision to disqualify them from contesting the Delhi University Students Union(DUSU) elections scheduled for September four.

The candidates were disqualified for violation of the code of conduct as they failed to comply with the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations. They were found spending more than the fixed amount of Rs 5,000 for the election campaign, using cars and organising rallies.

ABVP presidential candidate Rohit Chahal, alongwith Lalit Kumar, for the post of Secretary and Ashok Khari, for Jt Secretary, through their lawyer Ajay Digpaul had asked the Court for permission to contest the elections on the grounds that their disqualification was ‘arbitrary and unwarranted.’ The Court said there was no merit in the petition and it could not interfere at this stage.

Meanwhile, the sixth candidate, Rahul Mathur of NSUI, who was also disqualified, approached the court today. His application will come up for hearing today.
