Taking a serious note of the continuing attacks on women, home minister P Sabita Indra Reddy on Saturday directed the police to register non-bailable cases against those involved in harassment of women and arrest them without delay. The home minister held a review meeting with police top officials before leaving for Rajahmundry to console Anusha, who was attacked by a spurned youth and lost her parents while they tried to protect her. Expressing concern over the continuing attacks on women, she said that there is a need to promulgate an ordinance to curb the rising crime against women. "The police should not show any negligence when a victim lodges complaint with them about harassment. Stringent action against the culprits would help prevent crime against women," she said. She directed the department to set up a grievance cell under the superintendent of police (SP) to receive complaints from students at the colleges within 10 days. The minister said that a counselling centre would be set up in every college, and the government will also request the High Court to set up fast track courts in the districts to deal with these cases.
