Advocates in the city will boycott all court proceedings on November 9. They have demanded that Chief Justice P D Dinakaran not sit through any proceedings. This, until the collegium clears him of all corruption charges against him. A resolution was taken at a general body meeting of the Bangalore Advocates Association on Wednesday, which saw acrimony between pro and anti-Dinakaran camps. The association requested other bar associations in the state to boycott court proceedings on November 9. At least 57 advocates spoke at the meeting, of which eight opposed the resolution while 49 supported it. When the resolution was put to vote, it got a majority through `voice of vote'. On what stand the association would take if the CJ continued to sit through court proceedings even after November 9, association president K N Putte Gowda remarked, "It is difficult to find Sita in the judiciary. She was banished to a forest after a washerman expressed suspicion on her character. So when the needle of suspicion pointed at him (CJ), he should have stopped attending the court. We will wait for the collegium's decision... If the chief justice continues to sit, we will protest again." NOISY SCENES The meeting saw some friction when a few advocates, supporting the chief justice, tried to stage a protest. Then Putte Gowda warned them that the association won't heed to such pressure tactics. "It'll pass a resolution as per majority vote, and equal opportunity will be given to all members to express their opinion too." When a pro-chief justice advocate made some remark about other members at the meeting, noisy scenes erupted on the dias, with some members pushing one another. A group of 20 advocates appeared out of nowhere and started shouting slogans against the association. The group called itself the `progressive advocates forum' and stated that its supporters will attend courts on November 9.
