With Lucknow West assembly by-election taking communal and sectarian turn, a group of Shia Muslims, owing allegiance to ruling BSP on Friday lodged FIR against Samajawadi Party general secretary Amar Singh for hurting the community's religious sentiments. The FIR was lodged under section 153 A of Indian Penal Code for doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony. This move is presumably aimed at creating dissesnion in Shia community on the eve on polling on Saturday against SP candidate Bukkal Nawab, who also belongs to the same community. The FIR was lodged at Chowk police station under section 153 A of Indian Penal Code for doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony. The complainant, former chairman Shia Waqf Board Syed Wasim Rizvi, who is a BSP leader, filing FIR in the capacity of secretary Idara-i-hai-aza said that Amar Singh during an election meeting at Chowk crossing on Wednesday had hurt the sentiment of Shia community by comparing former BJP leader Kalyan Singh with Seventh century martyr of Karabla Hazrat Horr. "Kalyan Singh is Horr for Samajwadi and Bhasmasur for BJP", Amar said at the meeting. Who was Horr: Historically Horr, who was part of army of Yazid at the battle of Karbala in 680 AD against Hussain-ibne-Ali, and Grandson of Prophet Mohammad, changed his mind and joined Hussain's small band of army along with his son, brother and some other supporters and fought against Yazid. They all were martyred. Rizvi said Singh's comparison of Hazrat Horr with Kalyan Singh was highly objectionable. The complainant said the Shia community was very upset over the comparison. He said Singh had uttered these words intentionally to disturb the communal harmony before the by-polls to be held on Saturday. It may be recalled that BSP minister Nasimuddin Sidiqque had compared BSP workers with the army of Imam Hussain during last Lok Sabha election. The issue had then snowballed into major controversy. Several prominent Shia clerics including Agha Roohi Abaqqati had condemned the minister's statement. Rizvi said Amar Singh should apologize to the Shia community.A group of Shia community also staged protest and burnt the effigy of Amar Singh at Bara Imambara and some other places in old city area. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vidhan Sabha Arun Kumar Gupta said an FIR under appropriate IPC sections had been lodged against Singh. Besides, one Nihal Rizvi also submitted a complaint to the Chowk police on the issue that has also been included in the investigation. Further investigation in the case is going on, he added.
