14 Addl Judges sworn in as permanent judges of Madras HC

Fourteen Additional Judges of the Madras High Court were sworn in as permanent Judges after Chief Justice H L Gokhale administered the oath of affirmation to them at a brief function held at the Court Complex.



Justices K Chandru, V Ramasubramanian, S Mani Kumar, A Selvam, P R Sivakumar, G Rajasuria, T Sudanthiram, V S Nagamuthu, S Palanivelu, K K Sasidharan, M Venugopal, V Periya Karuppiah, R Subiah and M Sathyanarayanan were sworn-in as permanent judges. 



After taking oath, senior most among them, Mr Justice K Chandru, submitted declaration of assets to the Chief Justice.



‘This is the first time in the history of Madras High Court, a contingent of 14 Additional Judges have been confirmed as permanent Judges and sworn-in,’ a senior District Judge told UNI.



At present, of the 54 sitting judges in the court, only 26 are permanent, while the remaining are additional judges. 



With the swearing-in, the number of permanent judges in the court would go up to 40.
