The Supreme Court issued notices to the Centre and world renowned pen manufacturing company Mont’s Blanc on a PIL objecting to using the picture of the Father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi on the nib of the pen.

The company is selling the pen with picture of Mahatma Gandhi on the nib for Rs 12 lakh and has paid between 70-75 lakh to great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi for the rights to print the picture of Mahatma on the latest limited edition of pens.

The company is also paying between 200-1000 dollars on the sale of each pen to the great grandson.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan issued notices on the petition filed by two Delhi based advocates who contended that the picture of Gandhi who is considered to be a saint by millions of people across the world, must not be allowed to be used for making personal gains by using his picture for commercial purposes.
