HUBLI: The members of Hubli Bar Association on Friday boycotted the court proceedings and staged a rasta roko agitation at Court Circle here, seeking the arrest of a man who "allegedly" assaulted a senior advocate. The traffic movement at the busy junction was thrown out of gear for over 30 minutes due to the agitation.

The protesters charged one Rama Rao with assaulting Pakeerswamy Guddennavarover a petty issue recently. After the incident, the advocates filed a case against the attacker, demanding his arrest. But according to them, the police have not yet arrested him.

The protesting advocates said Rao should immediately be brought to book and so that he is punished as per the law. "Delay in arresting him may make people doubt the police," they said.

After visiting the protest venue, DCP Chandiram Singh assured the advocates that they will soon take action against Rao, after which the advocates withdrew the agitation.

V B Nadagaddi, president, Ashok Anvekar, general secretary, and others participated in the agitation.
