Panel formed to probe Assam bus accident
The Assam govt has constituted a one-man committee to probe into the causes and circumstances leading to the bus accident in Kamrup (Rural) district that claimed 31 lives.
A notification issued by the Political (A) Department on Wednesday said the probe would be conducted by Lower Assam Division Commissioner Hemanga Kumar Sharma.
The terms of reference shall be the circumstances leading to the deaths and injury of passengers in the accident and to find out lapses, if any, on the part of any authority, person causing the accident on Monday night.
The measures to be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future and any other matter which in the opinion of the enquiry authority is required to be looked into will be other area of reference, the notification added.
Thirty-one members of a marriage party, including the groom and relatives, perished in the accident when their bus fell from a wooden bridge on Hajo-Guwahati road and plunged into a 40-feet deep pond.
