A conference of Chief Ministers, held here today on the 5th Report on ‘Public Order’ of the 2nd Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC), was attended by the Chief Ministers and Home Ministers of the States and Lt.Governors & Administrators of Union Territories. The conference was chaired by the Union Home Minister Shri Sushilkumar Shinde and was also attended by the members of Group of Ministers constituted by the Government to consider the recommendations of the 2nd ARC.

 

Discussions on 153 recommendations contained in the Fifth Report of the ARC were held, in this conference. The States expressed free and frank views on the various recommendations of the Commission on issues pertaining to police reforms, management of public order, reforms in criminal justice system, federal crimes and special laws & the role of civil society and media in the management of public order.

 

These recommendations will now be examined in the light of the views expressed by the States and Union Territories and the Government will take decisions on these recommendations, keeping in view the views expressed by the participants.
