MADURAI: D. Navaneethakrishnan, 31, a lawyer practising in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, suffered a massive heart attack on the court premises and died in a private hospital on Tuesday evening. A native of Surlipatti in Theni district, Navaneethakrishnan is survived by his mother and a brother. Fuel shortage? His lawyer friends complained that he could have been saved but for the court ambulance which could not be pressed into service for want of fuel. According to eyewitnesses, the lawyer suffered a heart attack and gasped for breath near the elevator on the ground floor of the court building around 4 p.m. As the court dispensary lacked life support systems, a doctor attached to it suggested that he be shifted to a nearby hospital. Registrar (Administration) V. Vijayan denied that the ambulance was short of fuel.
