Setting up of Special Juvenile Police Units under JJ Act, 2000

A special Juvenile Police Unit is to be created in every district and city under Section 63(3) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000. The purpose of setting up these units is to coordinate and to upgrade police treatment of the juveniles and the children. 

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has been requesting the States and UTs from time to time to take measures for effective implementation of the JJ Act. 

This information was given by Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi in a written reply to Lok Sabha today.
