There has been a blow to the Goa government in the state's latest scandal. The High Court has intervened in the alleged rape of a 14-year-old German girl and has demanded a report on the case. It has issued notices to the state government and the police. Fadela Fuch's fight for justice gets a shot in the arm from the Bombay High Court. Concerned about the investigations, the court has taken up the case. It has demanded reports from the state government and the police by November 11. Two weeks ago, the Goa Police had charged Rohit, the son of Goa's Education Minister Babush Monserrate with raping her 14-year-old daughter. However, since then, there has been little action. The High Court's intervention comes at a crucial stage as Fuch takes on another powerful Goa politician, PWD minister Churchill Alemao. She filed a case against his nephew Warren Alemao, accusing him with sexually abusing her daughter. "The mother of the girl has given the SP a written complaint against the nephew of the PWD minister," said Aires Rodrigues, Fuch's lawyer. However, both Alemao and his nephew have denied the allegations. "These allegations are false," said Warren. The High Court's intervention is a blow to the Goa government. But the police say their investigations are handicapped without the victim's statement and so far she has not come forward to record it.
