NATIONAL NEWS SUMMARIES

1.    NCLT or NCLAT cannot interfere with the ‘commercial wisdom’ of COC

•    In the case of Kalparaj Dharamshi & Anr v. Kotak Investment Advisors Ltd & Ors, the Supreme Court has held that the NCLT or the NCLAT can’t interfere with the commercial wisdom of the Committee of Creditors.
•    However, the Court held that they can interfere under Sections 30 & 31 of the Insolvency and the Bankruptcy Code.

2.    Media directed to strictly follow program code by Karnataka HC

•    The Karnataka High Court, by an order, has directed all the news channels to strictly follow the program code under Section 5 of the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act read with its Section 6.
•    The Court also held that any violation of the order would be liable for prosecution under the Act.

3.    Petty disputes do not come under the definition of cruelty: Calcutta HC

•    The Calcutta High Court has held that petty disputes, which are part and parcel of a married life, do not come under the definition of cruelty.
•    This was held by the Calcutta High Court in the case of Chiranjib Bag v. Suchandra Bag.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS SUMMARIES

1.    British airline pays compensation to female passenger

•    A British woman, while in British Airline EasyJet, had to change her seat twice just because she was a woman.
•    The woman moved the Court and sought the compensation of an amount equaling to Rs. 14,59,108.
•    EasyJet had to apologize to the woman and paid her an undisclosed amount of compensation.

2.    Passenger who coughed on Uber driver banned

•    In San Francisco, Mr. Subhakar Khadka had picked up 3 women who taunted and coughed on him when he asked them to wear a mask.
•    The San Francisco Police Department is investigating the matter.
•    Uber has banned the passenger.

3.    Adopting woman searching for biological parents finds out her father was a murderer

•    A 63 year old woman, Kathy Gillcrist, was looking for her biological parents after she had gone under a DNA test in the year 2017.
•    Her search took her to the FBI’s most wanted list.
•    She found out that her father was on the most wanted list of the FBI.
