Murder Of Jharkhand Judge In Daylight: SCBA President Mentions Matter Before Supreme Court; Seeks CBI Probe
An Additional District Judge, Justice Uttam Anand, of Jharkhand was murdered in broad daylight. The matter was brought to notice by the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Senior Advocate Vikas Singh, who has also asked for a CBI probe. The murder has been desribed as a ‘brazen attack on judociary’. The matter was mentioned before the bench of Justice D Y Chandrachud. The judge was dealing with bail petitions of gangsters and was brutally murdered while he was out on his morning walk.

Rajasthan High Court dismisses plea seeking ban on online fantasy games with money stake
A petition had been filed in the Rajasthan High Court seeking that there be a prohibition in the state on paying money for online fantasy games in order to win. The said petition has been dismissed. The petition had been filed by Saahil Nalwaya, who is a resident of Udaipur, Rajasthan. In this case, the Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS) has clarified by relying upon various judgements that online fantasy games are different from betting or gamblinga and require skill. Hence, they are protected under Article 19 (g) of the Constitution.

Madras HC Asks CCI to probe into alleged Steel Industry Cartelisation
The Madras High Court had directed the Director General, Investigation of the Competition Commission of India (CCI), to probe into the suspicions of cartelisation of steel manufacturers. In another case, the Director General of Police (DGP), Tamil Nadu has been asked to probe into the allegation of cartelisation in the cement industry. The orders were passed by Justice V Bhavani Subbaroyan. One of the petitions was filed by Coimbatore Corporation Contractors Welfare Association and the second by the Class I Contractor Welfare Association-Mangadu.

Madras HC orders clamp down on corruption and dereliction of duty in Commercial Tax Department
In the case of GE Govindaraj v. The Assistant Commissioner (CT) and Ors, the Madras High Court has stated that strict action needs to be taken against officers in the Commercial Tax Department, who have engaged in corrupt practices or have failed to pay taxes. The decision was given by Justice S M Subramaniam. The judge also mentioned that the sufferers are the common public as they are the ones most affected by corrupt practices of officers. Adequate care has to be taken that taxes are filed justly and corrupt officers are dealt with strictly.

SC reserves judgement in appeal against Delhi HC stay order in Amazon V. Future case
The Supreme Court today reserved its judgment in the appeal filed by Amazon, against the Delhi High Court order which stayed a previous order directing the attachment of properties of Future Group companies and Kishore Biyani, in relation to the Future-Reliance deal. The decision was made by a Division Bench of Rohinton Fali Nariman and BR Gavai. Senior Advocate Aspi Chinoy made detailed arguments before the Bench on behalf of Amazon. Senior Advocate Harish Salve, appearing for FRL, made submissions regarding the error in the order passed by single-judge, Justice JR Midha.

Karnataka HC summons Health Commissioner over non implementation of SUCHI scheme
The Karnataka High Court has asked for the physical appearance of Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, in court, in relation to the non implementation of the SUCHI scheme. The decision was given by the Division Bench consisting of Justice B V Nagarathna and Justice P Krishna Bhat. Under this scheme, sanitary napkins are distributed to adolescent girls who are between the ages of 10 years to 19 years. It was found out that the scheme was not being implemented due to financial constraints. The Bench remarked that the SUCHI scheme was only on paper.

Delhi HC: Cannot prosecute good samaritans for providing oxygen when Centre and State failed
The Delhi High Court has stated that good samaritans cannot be prosecuted for providing the citizens who were trapped in the deadly second wave of the COVID 19 pandemic with oxygen cylinders. The Drug Controller of the Delhi Government had initiated a case against AAP MLA Praveen Kumar for procuring medical oxygen. The Court said that such an action cannot be initiated when the Centre and the State failed to provide oxygen. It was stated that the procurement of medical oxygen was different from the hoarding of COVID 19 drugs.

Plea in SC against Sachar Committee Report; Muslims can't be treated as special class entitled for benefits to backward classes
A plea has been filed before the Supreme Court against the implementation of the Sachar Committee Report which recommends welfare schemes in favour of the Muslim minority community. The plea was moved by six followers of Sanatan Vedic Dharma who have argued that their rights, along with rights of similarly situated Hindus, are being infringed due to the Sachar Committee report. The plea was filed through Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain. As per the petitioners, Muslims as a religious community cannot be treated as a special class entitled for benefits available to backward classes.

Two minor girls raped in Goa; Goa CM makes regressive comments
Two minors were brutally raped on the Benaulim beach in Goa. However, the Goa CM, Pramod Sawant has made a remark as to why teenage girls would go out on the beach late into the night.This regressive comment has drawn a lot of flak and controversy. The CM has even gone on to say that it was the irresponsibility of the two girls and the Government or the Police cannot be blamed for the incident. The onus of safety, according to Sawant, was on the parents of the minors who were to restrict their movement at night.
