ACID ATTACK VICTIM DIES IN HYDERABAD 31 Dec 2008, 1326 hrs IST, PTI HYDERABAD: A young girl in Andhra Pradesh, who suffered serious burn injuries in an acid attack earlier this month, died in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Swapnika, who was put on ventilator support after her condition deteriorated further, breathed her last at around 5.30 am., doctors attending the girl said. Swapnika, a final year engineering student from Warangal, sustained over 50% burns in the acid attack on Dec 10, was suffering from multiple organ failures and other complications and could not recover, the doctors said. A friend of Swapnika, Pranita who also suffered burns in the attack was recovering, they said. The body of Swapnika will be taken to her native place and a post-mortem conducted. Swapnika and Pranita, both final year B.Tech students of Kakatiya Institute of Technology and Science (KITS) sustained burn injuries when they were attacked with acid by unidentified persons at Ramaram locality in Warangal town, about 140 km from here. Three days later, the Andhra Pradesh police killed a trio, who were allegedly involved in acid attack on two engineering girl students. S Srinivas (25) and his associates Sanjay (22) and Harikrishna (24) were gunned down by the police on December 13 at a desolate location near Pamunur, about 15 km from Warangal. The police action evoked mixed reaction with major opposition parties, including TDP, had demanded a judicial probe.
