SC issues notice to EC New Delhi, Apr 15 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the Election Commission and the Centre to file their response within six weeks on a PIL seeking directions from the court that in future only recognised national political parties be allowed to contest general elections. A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, Justices C K Thakkar and D K Jain also allowed the substitution of Mr Elephant G Rajendran in place of original petitioner M O Kandasamy Singh as he is dead. According to the petitioner, in 2004 general elections, the two national parties -- BJP and Congress -- got only 138 and 142 seats respectively and if that trend is allowed to continue, then regional parties with their local interest shall takeover the national political scene.
