Vikas Yadav, son of controversial UP politician D P Yadav and his cousin Vishal were sentenced to life imprisonment in the Nitish Katara murder case with a Delhi Court holding that the offence did not fall under the rarest of rare category warranting death penalty. The court held that the offence cannot be termed as "brutal and diabolical in nature" for awarding capital punishment. Pronouncing an 18-page order on sentence, Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur, concluded that Katara, a business executive who was intimate with Vikas' sister Bharti, had suffered a single injury on the skull which led to his death.
