The Delhi High Court dismissed Rohit Shekhar’s plea that he was Andhra Pradesh Governor and veteran Congress leader N D Tiwari’s biological son.
The order was seen as a relief to Mr Tiwari.
Rohit Shekhar is the son of former Congress party activist Ujjwala Sharma.
Justice S N Dhingra ruled that Rohit’s petition was ‘un-maintainable’. The Judge had reserved his order after hearing the arguments.
Rohit’s petition was seconded by his mother Ms Ujjawala’s written statement submitted before the court which said, ‘Tiwari drew her into an extra-marital affair.’ ‘Believing the repeated requests and being convinced of the love and affection shown by Mr Tiwari, hailing from a respectable and prestigious family, I submitted to emotional pressure and that culminated in the birth of Rohit Shekhar,’ according to her statement.
Legally separated from her husband, Ms Sharma also alleged in her plea that Mr Tiwari started losing interest in Rohit Shekhar after becoming an MP and started threatening her.
After the death of his wife in 1993, Mr Tiwari had once again assured her that he would acknowledge Rohit publicly as his son by way of adoption, but ‘when reminded in 1995 he refused to talk to me’, Ms Sharma said.
