Use law as a tool of social engineering: CJI Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan on Saturday said law should be used as a tool of social engineering. Addressing a gathering at a Law University in Raipur, Balakrishnan said, "We live in a country where some people are alienated from the benefit of the legal system and the freedom offered by the Constitution of no fault of their own, and who are victims of circumstance and of fate." "At times people, who try to use the law, are often caught within the labyrinth of the legal system, in absence of any guidance," he said. "It is this gap of knowledge and information that each one must strive to bridge and bring the law to the doorstep of every citizen of the country," he said. Earlier, he had an informal meeting with Governor E S L Narasimhan, Chief Minister Raman Singh at Raj Bhawan.
