Cops Catch Drug Peddler In The Act 11 Feb 2009, 0609 hrs IST, TNN Text: PANAJI: Cops of the anti-narcotics cell arrested a person from Rajasthan trying to sell 1.10 kgs of brown sugar to a foreigner at Mala, Panaji on Tuesday. Depending on its purity, the seized narcotic is valued at anything between Rs 20 lakh and Rs one crore in the international market. SP (public relations) Atmaram Deshpande said, "Acting on information, ANC cops arrested Tej Singh (26) from Rajasthan while trying to sell brown sugar at Mala today." ANC cops said they had information that Tej, a frequent visitor to the state during the tourist season, had arrived from Rajasthan on Monday and struck a deal to sell brown sugar to a foreigner at Mala. Accordingly, the police laid a trap and caught Tej at around 4 pm with the drug in a polythene bag. Police said that Tej, who came to Goa every season, was involved in selling plastics in the North Goa coastal belt and at Mapusa. Sources said, "This was his second visit to Goa this season. He had come to Goa a month back, perhaps to strike a deal and returned on Monday with the drugs from Rajasthan. He was staying with a friend at Pilerne." Sources added that samples of the seized narcotic would be sent to the central laboratory in Hyderabad to check the purity of the drug so as to ascertain its price
