Vimochana and Asian Women’s Right Council, with 40 women’s organisations, is holding India Court of Women on Dowry on Tuesday, called “Daughters of Fire”.

The programme on Tuesday would be inaugurated by V.R. Krishna Iyer, former Supreme Court Judge, at Christ University here.

Twenty-five women and their families from different parts of the country would bring to the court their personal testimonies of pain, survival and resistance. A jury comprising activists, academics and artists would hear and respond to the testimonies that would be interwoven with expert witness presentations and poetic visuals establishing the broader context within which these personal stories could be understood.

Members of the jury include Mr. Iyer, Vandana Shiva, Veena Talwar Oldenburg, Kamla Bhasin, Shiv Vishwanathan and Mallika Sarabhai. Nearly 2,000 people from different sections of society are expected to participate.

On Monday, the “Court of Women” would be preceded by a series of six simultaneous roundtable discussions on different aspects of the issue of dowry and related forms of violence.
