Delhi High Court dismissed the petition of Greater Kailash residents, who wanted a say in the inquiry into the recent mishap at the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) work site at Zamrudpur.

During the day, DMRC lawyer Virender Sood submitted the Action Taken Report (ATR) in the case at the Court.

He said action was being taken against the concerned officials in the accident, which claimed six lives and left 15 injured in July. The Court had sought an explanation from the DMRC on allegations by the Greater Kailash residents.

A PIL was filed by the residents stating that the Corporation failed to comply with High Court’s order issued last year on the precautionary measures.

After going through the report filed by Mr Sood, a division bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice Manmohan dismissed the petition of residents stating ‘How do you come into the picture.’ ‘When DMRC is taking action on their own, how can you suggest them how to inquire into the matter,’ Justice Shah asked the residents and told them to withdraw the petition.

The petitioner had contended that the recent accident in Zamrudpur happened due to non-compliance of the safety measures and suggested alternate methods to device safety standards.

Earlier, the residents had approached the High Court claiming that the elevated Metro was a risk to the environment and should be constructed underground.
