Law University in Each State – Dr Moily

Dr. Moily Launches Bar Council Vision Statement and Website

The Law and Justice Minister, Dr. Veerappa Moily has said that the government will open Law University in each state of the country. Speaking at a function organised by the Bar Council of India in connection with launching of its new website and vision statement for 2010-12, in New Delhi today, the Minister said that the government will extend full cooperation to the Bar Council of India for reforms in Law Education. He said, under the dynamic leadership of the Bar Council Chairman and Solicitor General of India, Shri Gopal Subramaniam, the legal education will see a sea change to nurture new dimensions in the field of Law Education in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of Bar Council of India and Solicitor General, Sh. Gopal Subramaniam said the Bar Council would shortly put in place All India Bar Examination to serve as a benchmark test to ensure a basic level of skills and knowledge to those joining the legal profession and those who intend to practice law in India. To start with the examination will be conducted in December this year. Bar Council of India will provide preparatory material to advocates appearing for the examination, which will be conducted in nine languages.
